Justin Pierre from Motion City Soundtrack

Justin Pierre from Motion City Soundtrack

Justin Pierre, the singer for our pals Motion City Soundtrack, was in town on Sunday promoting the band’s forthcoming album on Columbia Records. He taped an on-camera movie review with Eric for Scene-Stealers.com and spent the middle part of the day in The Dead Girls’ exclusive basement studio.

Why, you may ask?

Why not? We decided to try and write and record a song from the ground up in five hours and that’s exactly what we did.

Our good friend J.D. Warnock (The Blackpool Lights, Ultimate Fakebook, The Creature Comforts) also joined us and Lawrence studio whiz Steve Squire engineered this whirlwind recording session.

After arranging a couple of riffs, everybody instinctively worked together assemble the pieces into a song. After one live take, Justin and Cameron wrote some quickie lyrics and recorded vocal parts. Add a little Warnock backup sauce, and we’re good to go. Squire did an amazing job making it NOT sound like it was recorded in a basement, and we were good to go. Since we don’t really know what to do with it, we’ll just out it here for you to listen to for now. Enjoy and Happy Thanksgiving!

“Later”

The first track on Out Of Earshot is the first track for a reason—that is, it represents our initial undertaking of the album’s recording, which began waaaaaaaay back in 2006. (more…)

The “Out of Earshot” Chronicles: A Summation of The Dead Girls Experience

Wednesday, November 4th, 2009

The Dead Girls have spent about a sixth of our lives recording and preparing “Out of Earshot” for release. So, there’s gotta be some stuff to blog about, right? You bet your ass–we should have been doing it gradually this whole time, actually. But, hindsight works wonders, as we usually learn.

A 3-piece style “Hair Trigger” live @ RecordBar 10/2/09

Wednesday, November 4th, 2009

JoJo decided he needed to flee to Spain to visit his beloved (see the track “Te Quiero”), but having one (or even two members) missing has never stopped The Dead Girls before. On this night of the second of October, on the occasion of the Present Magazine Anniversary Bash at RecordBar, no exceptions were made. This is us rocking “Hair Trigger” in true stripped-down fashion. Fun stuff!
