deadgirlsmosaicsmallThe first review of the album is in!

Three songs from the album are streaming there as well!

Pete Dulin from PresentMagazine.com writes:
“Once again, The Dead Girls produce material on Out of Earshot that is catchy and polished, full of clean production, solid arrangements, and vocals that can clearly be heard, felt, and considered for their emotional impact. Consistently, their songs offer exuberant power pop and tenderhearted rock bravado within the space of three to four minutes.”

Live Performance of New Song from Afentra’s Big Fat Morning Buzz

Wednesday, February 10th, 2010

deadgirlspromo1

The Dead Girls were privileged to be invited to play on Afentra’s Big Fat Morning Buzz this morning. We ended up doing a quick interview and playing one song around 8:30 am, which is too early for most of us to think, let alone play music.

Fortunately, it went really well, and both Afentra and Jeriney were super cool to help us promote the JayRock Benefit Concert for the JayDoc free clinic, which is taking place at the Uptown Theater this Friday, February 12th (we’ll be playing with KC’s Thieves and New Orleans’ Generationals). A huge thanks to both of them and to everyone up at 96.5 for a great and rocking morning!

Help The Dead Girls open for KISS in Kansas City–WE NEED YOUR VOTES!!!

Wednesday, December 2nd, 2009
The Dead Girls love KISS (this isn't really them, though)

The Dead Girls love KISS (this isn't really them, though)

I have been playing music in some capacity for about fifteen years now, and especially in these times of economic hardship, I have found myself wondering why more than once. A lot of the time, it’s a ton of hard work for very little payoff. But, I knew that going into it, and whenever I find I am beating myself up about the choices I’ve made, I ask myself, “What did you expect? That you would open for KISS someday or something?”

Never in my wildest dreams did I actually think this would be a possibility. But, as of last night, that possibility has materialized.

When 101 The Fox, a classic rock station (sorry…THE classic rock station) in Kansas City, announced their “Open For Kiss” contest, I had no idea it was even a thing. I was still trying to figure out how to win some free tix to the show, because my friend Eric (notorious KISS superfan and Dead Girls drummer) had done this through another radio contest that involved writing an essay about why you love KISS and sending in a photo that was KISS related. Thankfully, Eric had some fake blood on hand (fresh from his appearance at the Air Guitar National Championships in DC), doused his tongue in it, and took a picture of himself in front of his velvet KISS…now how would he NOT win that competiton?

Gene is Eric's favorite

Gene is Eric's favorite

So imagine the possibilities when this same guy hears about this OTHER radio contest, except this one involves having your BAND OPEN FOR KISS. Eric’s tenacity (which is fueled by KISS like a junkie’s joneses are fueld by smack) is one that is hard to match, and usually impossible not to notice. He sent a demo of our song “Last Words”, and the contest folks loved it. All of a sudden, holy SHIT dude, we could open for KISS?!?!?

Like a lot of the contests and shindigs we get involved in, our winning–our ability to share the stage with these rock gods–depends solely on the amount of votes we can gather up on the 101 The Fox website. You all have been amazing about voting for us in these contests, as we have won many of them, and it is continually appreciated by all of us. But, if you have helped us at all in the past, PLEASE don’t hesitate to help us this time. Using words I’m sure Gene Simmons has used at some point in his life, “This is the BIG ONE.”

Visit the 101 The Fox Website to VOTE for THE DEAD GIRLS today, and thank you all!

A huge thank you to everybody who voted for us in the 2009 Pitch Music Awards this year.

Sunday night at the Uptown Theater, The Dead Girls took home the award for Best Pop Band in Kansas City area.

It’s so nice to be recognized and even cooler to have a local newspaper like The Pitch that throws a bash to celebrate the local music scene every year! It was great to see all the other nominees, have some drinks, and watch some very cool performances. Congratulations to everybody else who was nominated. Getting treated like a VIP for two hours (free drinks!) and having your own event is pretty damn cool. (more…)

We could not have done it last year without the help of all of you awesome rock fans out there, and we won’t be able to do it again this year without you either!

New blog on the Indie Pop Alliance Show

Monday, June 8th, 2009

Hey everyone,

A little JoJo action...

A little JoJo action...

A blog site called Too Much Rock posted a few words and photos to represent the killer time we all had last Friday at Crosstown Station in KCMO. Check out the entire show review here, or our section after the break:

Dead Girls (for those who aren’t locals) are a Kansas City foursome built from the guitarists/vocalists of Podstar and the rhythm section of Ultimate Fakebook. The band is a textbook definition of power pop, and like others in the genre, owes everything to Cheap Trick and Big Star. The band holds no delusions there. For 50 minutes this foursome owned the stage, exuding enough energy to feed a packed arena, but all the while still maintaining a laid back and informal atmosphere …

New review of “Te Quiero” in Ink!

new DG EP

new DG EP

The Dead Girls
Te Quiero

Lawrence power-pop group The Dead Girls are back at it again with their second of three EPs, Te Quiero. The EP follows up The Hair Trigger, and a third EP will be released in anticipation of the band’s second full-length album, Out of Earshot.

Te Quiero seems to pick up where The Hair Trigger left off, giving the listener an earful of dueling guitars, skillful harmonies and crucial rhythms.

Dead Girls Concert Review; live @ the Replay!

Wednesday, June 3rd, 2009
live at the Replay

live at the Replay

The Dead Girls pulled off another successful show last night at the Replay with our dear friend Lonnie Fisher and the fantastically dressed Hot Toddies. Abbie Stutzer of the Pitch came out and reviewed it. She had this to say:

“After seeing Cameron Hawk (guitar, vocals), Nick Colby (bass), JoJo Longbottom (guitar, vocals) and Eric Melin (drums) play, I can without a doubt state that they are remarkable musicians. The Girls’ drums and bass rang with metronomic precision, and their guitars and vocals swung with harmonious perfection.”

Kind words from the Pitch. She even called Hawks a “bird of prey”, which I found to be hilariously awesome! We want to thank everyone who came out, and if you have not had a chance to hear our new record or new songs, come check us out at the Crosstown Station this Friday night!
